🎉 Something Extra Special This Week…

We’re thrilled to announce that NEXT will be visiting Roundoak Farm this week with Hamish, their Highland Cow, as part of their brand-new marketing campaign. We can't beleive it!
It’s a very exciting project to be part of, and we can’t wait to see Hamish enjoying his time here at the farm.

🐮 Growing Our Highland Fold

We love Highland cows just as much as our visitors do – and there’s even more exciting news for our herd!
Norman and Ruth are currently at Dumfries House, where they’re collecting four new heifers to join our Highland fold. This is such an exciting time for the farm, as our fold continues to grow and thrive.
Some of our older cows are now retiring from the breeding programme, but don’t worry – they will always remain part of the Roundoak family here on the farm.
Their presence is as special as ever, even if they won’t be adding to our future generations.

🌾 Life on the Farm – Preparing for Winter
As we move into the colder months, Rose and Garry continue to work hard preparing the farm for winter. At the moment, our animals are still happily out in the fields, but in the coming weeks, the barns will be ready and cosy to welcome them in.
It’s important to bring the animals into the barns during the winter months to protect them from the worst of the weather, ensure they’re well-fed and cared for, and to keep our rare breeds in the best possible condition.
We’re proud to be a rare breed farm, homing some of the rarest cattle in the UK. Our ethos is to educate visitors about the importance of these breeding programmes and why we do what we do – ensuring these wonderful animals are protected for generations to come.
Those who visit Roundoak are given a unique one-to-one experience, where you don’t just see our animals – you truly get to know them.
🙏 A huge thank you to Rose and Garry for their continued dedication and hard work in keeping everything running smoothly.
🏕️ Campsite News
We also have limited hard-standing campsite pitches available if you’d like to visit us through the winter months.
This past summer was one of our busiest Augusts ever, and we were overwhelmed with so many kind comments from visitors – proof that all our hard work goes a long way. A special thank you to Justyna for her tireless efforts in keeping our facilities spotless and welcoming.
We hope to see many of you return next year!
🐑 Lambing and Summer Highlights
This summer we enjoyed a hugely successful Lambing Weekend, which was one of the highlights of our calendar. We’re already planning dates for next year – and there’s even more exciting news.
🌟 Rose is introducing Live Lambing Experience Days for 2026, aimed at visitors aged 17+. These days will offer a truly hands-on experience during the height of lambing, with the chance to be part of the action – and possibly even help one of our sheep give birth. An unforgettable opportunity to learn and connect with farming life.

A big thank you also goes to Dan and his family for hosting our much-loved Sunday Socials throughout the summer. Roundoak really comes alive in the warmer weather, and we can’t wait to see what next year brings.
🌦️ The Challenges of Farming
While the sunshine has brought lots of joy this year, it’s also presented challenges. Grass growth has been much slower, which has made it harder to keep our animals well-fed in the fields. Like many farms across the country, we’ve had to adapt, plan carefully, and make the most of what we have.
Farming is never easy – it takes grit, passion, and above all, love for the land and the animals. We’d like to give a shoutout to Jeremy Clarkson, whose recent work has helped highlight just how tough farming can be, and how much heart and dedication it takes to keep going year after year.
For now, our focus is on being prepared for winter and making sure our rare breeds are safe, comfortable, and thriving – whatever the weather brings.
Great posts Louise & collegues! We visited 3 years ago (from Netherlands). You make it tempting to visit again :-) Hope to do so in near future. Enjoy ! Kind regards Kees & Milja
