Winter Round up and new arrivals!

Updated: Mar 2

As many of you know Roundoak and Kings Oak Farms are very specialists.

You may recall a few months back when Ruth and Norman were guests at The Duke of Westminster Estate in Chester, where they purchased their first Vaynol Bull.

A few months down the line, we are pleased to say we had our first Vaynol calf born, and more expected in the next few weeks.

There are only 3 breeders of Vaynol Cattle in the UK and Roundoak/Kings Oak Farms are one of them.

Vanynols are an ancient English breed with less than 50 beasts alive, the Duke of Westminster and King Charles with their conservation connections, are interested in promoting the breed.

We also welcomed our first Irish Moiled calf in February. The Irish Moiled is one of the oldest of the surviving indigenous breeds of Irish cattle and the only surviving domestic livestock native to Northern Ireland. The myths and legends of Ireland refer many times to ‘red, white backed cattle’ and polled (hornless) skeletal remains that have been dated to 640 A.D.

We find this a huge achievement and are pleased to be doing our bit for the breeding program for these beautiful beasts.

Roundoak is one of 40 breeders of Irish Moiled cattle in the UK.

This winter has been particularly hard, I think it's fair to say for us all, mainly due to the weather.

However, to get us through the winter period, we had a fantastic Christmas Party at Mamma Mia at the 02. It's a rarity to see the team out of the Roundoak work wear but it's fair to say we all scrub up very well! It was a fantastic evening and well worth a visit if you haven't been.

Guy was nearly asked to join the crew of Mamma Mia with his amazing singing, but unfortunately, he is back performing for the sheep and cattle at Kings Oak!

Roundoak hosted its first Wreath Making day in December, which was a huge success. We met so many lovely people and the feedback was amazing - thanks too for sharing your pics of your freshly made wreaths! We hope to see you all again next year, and a few new faces.

Upcoming events!

We are looking forward to events starting up again - hopefully with the nicer weather.

On May the 11th and 12th this year we are hosting our annual lambing day!

Please pre-book tickets, as we have limited availability and wouldn't want you to miss out!

Click the picture for the link to tickets.

Camping- adult only site

We had a few guests stay with us over the winter period and braved the weather and with a few new hard-standing pitches we were able to accommodate them. We currently have some hard standing available if you would like a last-minute getaway!

However, we are getting booked up fast for Easter and summer already, if you would like more information about our site, contact the farm, or send us an email to book directly.

We want to thank you for all your support in being a Friend of Roundoak, we hope to see you very soon! Please don't forget to like us on Facebook and follow on Instagram to be the first to know about our news!
