irish moiled cattle

In 2020, Roundoak and Kings Oak welcomed another variety of rare breed to its brood.  The farm is now home to six Irish Moiled Cattle.

The Irish Moiled (Mollies) is one of the rarest cattle breeds which originated in Ireland and are currently listed as at risk with a population of 450 - 750 in the UK (Rare Breed Survival Trust). Traditionally a dairy cow, it has earned the reputation as a truly dual purpose breed, producing both high quality beef and milk from poor quality grazing.

Moilies are extremely long lived, fertile and maternal good suckler cows. They can produce calves at up to 15/16 years old. Animals are docile and therefore easy to handle.
